Starlink SPLAT-VO is a cross‑platform application for interactive visualization and analysis of one‑dimensional astronomical spectra. Designed for both research and teaching, it combines powerful plotting and measurement tools with built‑in interoperability with the Virtual Observatory.

Key capabilities:

  • Load spectra from local files (e.g., FITS, ASCII, VOTable) and query VO services via SSAP.
  • Plot, overlay, and compare multiple spectra with flexible styling; switch between wavelength, frequency, energy, or velocity axes.
  • Convert units and reference frames (e.g., air/vacuum, rest/observer frame, redshift/velocity).
  • Perform common analysis tasks: continuum fitting/normalization, smoothing and rebinning, spectral arithmetic, and co‑addition/stacking.
  • Identify and measure spectral features (centroid, FWHM, flux, equivalent width) and estimate redshifts.
  • Propagate uncertainties where available and export processed spectra and publication‑quality plots.
  • Exchange data with other VO tools through SAMP and discover services via VO registries.

Whether you’re inspecting pipeline outputs, measuring line properties, or assembling spectral comparisons from VO archives, SPLAT‑VO provides a robust, user‑friendly environment to get from raw spectra to scientific results.

Starlink SPLAT-VO - A Spectral Analysis Tool is developed by Starlink UK. The most popular version of this product among our users is 6.0.
